The Carmelites of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel celebrated Christmas Eve and Christmas Day masses amongst a beautiful display of poinsettias and trees which surrounded the Nativity scene in the Shrine Chapel in Middletown, New York. Many people were in attendance at the liturgies, and commented on the beauty and prayerfulness of the celebrations. In addition to Feast Day and Sunday liturgies, Mass is offered Monday through Friday at 11:30 am and all visitors are welcome to attend.
Situated on 60 beautiful acres in the mid-Hudson region of New York State, the National Shrine is open year around. It offers many programs which promote the spirituality of prayer, reflection, meditation and devotion to Mary and the Carmelite saints. Visitors can also visit the Carmelite gift store, relax in the picnic grove or stroll along trails bordered by lakes and enhanced by outdoor shrines.
