Carmelites in Support of Refugees

On Sunday, January 29, 2017 Carmelites participated in an impromptu celebration of the Eucharist in Lafayette Square in front of the White House to express their solidarity with refugees and immigrants.  More that 550 people attended the mass which was organized using social media by young Catholics and a grassroots organization called Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good which is an organization that promotes the social mission of Pope Francis and the Catholic Church in American politics.

The mass was celebrated by Fr. Quinn Conners, a Carmelite who is the prior and co-director of formation at Whitefriars Hall, the formation house for the Carmelite theology students who study at Catholic University.

It is good to see Carmelites, in the spirit of the prophet Elijah, carrying on the prophetic tradition of the Order.
